blog

A good blog post.

http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/2009/04/532-arguing-about-why-bad-things-happen.html

actually, the whole blog is pretty good. And coming from John Pipers son doesn't hurt. Atleast I think it's his son.

And his blog is good too. Atleast it cracked me up.

Reminded me a little of David Brown mets Strongbad.

by the way - I love having super masculine guys in my life even if I tease them occasionally for their weird man-antics.

Rock the 10D

My Canon 10D camera (the main camera I shoot with) is now over 6 years old, which in digital camera terms it is pretty much vintage! It is a 6 megapixel camera with a tiny little LCD display, AND 6 year old electronics. Blanca commented recently that she and her boss couldn't believe I was still shooting with a 10D. To which I responded, "well, I rock the 10D." But really, my 10D does have it's limitations and I've been drooling over the new Canon 5D Mark II ever since I heard rumors of it being released. The 5D Mark II has 21 megapixels, a large LCD display, can shoot video!, and has today's electronics in it. BUT it's $3,000 just for the body. So, I wait patiently and keep rocking the 10D!

Note: Blanca was very right and I can't really believe I am still shooting with a 10D either. Luckily, I am not shooting weddings. But I do plan to upgrade to the 5D Mark II by the end of the year.

Note 2: to see how I've been Rocking the 10D head on over to my photoblog:

matching energy levels

Normally, I am kindof of a middle of the road with a touch of sadness kind of person. I find though that I often match peoples energy levels though and I am also guessing thats pretty normal. I find this is especially true at work. My boss is quite extroverted - although she'd probably tell you that she's whatever you are just b/c thats how she rolls. Anyway, I find when talking with her I try to match (or come close) to matching her level, and have successfully acted excited about a mass email about insurance that needs to go out or the new HR envelopes we are ordering. But I also find I am extremely mellow after talking with my coworker what's his name. He speaks quite mellow-like and although he doesn't seem like a depressed person afterwards I am usually a tad down. He's just super steady and non-emotional (which isn't a bad thing overall)I kindof want to kick him occasionally just to see what would happen. But when we talk about non-work stuff he's much more animated and I am actually excited to keep living. Interesting. (by the way, this blog makes very little sense and is all over the place.) I guess thats just how we have to roll in HR. Kindof mellow, stick to the facts, don't get excited about too much, just do your job, be who The Man wants you to be. Another friend mentioned recently that I need to be a different person at work, come up with a "fake life", he said thats what he does. The real me seems to not fit so well in "corporate society" so a fake me might not be a bad idea.

I have more thoughts but as they are non-coherent at the moment I'll save them for later.

Letter from Afghanistan

Got a letter from my "sister" that I support through Women for Women Intl this week. Her name is Laila and she is married and has 11 kids! AND is a few years younger than me. Her family has not been affected by the war yet but I think and pray for her often. Honestly, I need to pray for them more. The letter says she thanks me for supporting her and that the program is useful and she heard about it at the local mosque. And she says she prays for me and wishes me sucess and a happy life. Was cool to hear from her.

Hail Havoc

I finally downloaded a few pics from my little camera and here's a few of what the hail storm did to my "patio."
here's my jade plant. It used to be about twice this size, fullness-wise. It is still not too happy and looks pretty bad.
This was a large pottery tray/bird bath thing. It is now in a bunch of pieces. I was able to crush it up a little more and use the shards in the bottom of new potted plants for drainage.

This was going to house some herb plants this year but it got hammered by the hail. Better the pot than my head I guess.

And here's whats left of my skylight. Luckily it was plastic but I am still picking shards of plastic out of my carpet. The vacuum cleaner hates finding pieces I missed!

Well, there you have it. Could have been worse. I wasn't home when it happened so my car is fine. And I really had no internal damage. The roof and skylight will be replaced. Still waiting for the insurance adjuster.
